Optimisation of Calf Housing at Dairy Farm Fraune

At dairy farm Fraune, we delivered a complete and future-oriented calf housing project, with both calf health and labour efficiency at its core — resulting in healthy, content calves and a highly satisfied customer.

For this client, we constructed no fewer than 9 Topcalf calf barns, including one barn equipped with a dedicated service unit. These fixed calf housing solutions are designed to ensure an optimal barn climate and high hygiene standards, strengthening the calves’ resistance and supporting healthy growth.

At the same time, the practical layout and efficient design make daily routines easier for the farmer, directly contributing to improved working comfort and enjoyment.

On the opposite side, we installed 4 Topcalf Trio XL calf hutches: mobile individual calf housing units with a multifunctional layout. Thanks to the removable partition walls, these hutches can be used flexibly:

• Individually,

• As a duo,

• Or as group housing for three calves.

This flexibility supports the calves’ social development and encourages natural interaction with their peers.

Why This Combination?

At dairy farm Fraune, a smart combination of fixed Topcalf calf barns and mobile Trio XL calf hutches was deliberately chosen. This setup provides both structure and flexibility within the calf rearing process.

The row of 9 calf barns, including a dedicated service unit, creates an efficient and well-organised working environment. Thanks to the optimal indoor climate, hygienic design and practical layout, calves can grow up healthy while daily routines for the farmer become easier, faster and more comfortable.

On the opposite side, the 4 Trio XL calf hutches form a valuable addition. With removable partition walls, calves can easily start individually and later be housed together in small groups. This not only supports a smooth transition to group housing, but also stimulates the animals’ natural social behaviour.

The combination of both systems results in a future-oriented calf housing concept where calf health, working comfort and flexibility come together perfectly.
